General Basics
How to Register
- Follow the registration instructions prompted by the Proboards registration system. If you have any questions about how this new version of Proboards operates, feel free to nudge a staff member.
- Though you may use whatever username you so choose, please note that as soon as possible, we would appreciate it if you could change your display name to your character's first and last name with proper capitalization. (Example: Harry Potter)
- Submit an application - please have one up within seven days of registering!
- Kindly await staff approval of the application before moving forward with claims. Only reservations can be made before acceptance. (Note: Please give the staff 48 hours before nudging them privately to see if they've looked it over or not. We should be done quicker than that, but just in case we need a buffer, it's nice to have one.)
Member Conduct
- Respect everyone out of character. There isn't any reason why you shouldn't treat people with the human dignity they deserve.
- Remember that a player is not their character. If your character doesn't get along with someone else's, that doesn't mean the player holds the same views!
- The staff have put a lot of effort into the creation and upkeep of the site. Please treat them with the same respect you would any other member, and when asked to make changes or do something, please do it. If you disagree, you can do so in a calm and respectful manner, same as they would with you.
- On that note, don't hesitate to ask questions! The staff is here to help.
- All members must be over the age of 13 to abide by the Proboards TOS. Sorry if you're below that! Come back and see us once your thirteenth passes, yeah?
- Plagiarism, aka stealing and theft of another's material, is not tolerated. Not only that, but it's also against the law.
Site Basics
Activity
- Canon characters and site canons needed for major plots are expected to post at least four times in-character a month.
- Original characters are expected to post in-character at least three times a month.
- In-character posts imply actual roleplaying posts. Asks, journal entries, plot threads, etc. do not count towards that total.
- If you're aware that you'll be offline for more than a week-and-a-half (ten days), please let us know via the Absence Notice Board located in the Chatter Box. Thank you!
Posting and Playing
- 200 word minimum. It's quality over quantity and when you have a lot or at least something to respond to, two hundred words hopefully shouldn't be hard. Please try to match your partner, though, it's only polite! If they give you a 1000 word post, 200 words isn't exactly a worthy response.
- All posts should be in third-person, past-tense. (Example: Remus walked slowly along the path.)
- Swearing is permitted in-character, but try not to be too vulgar. Keep it relatively Harry Potter rated, yeah?
- Generally, this is a PG-13 forum. Swearing is permitted. Graphic violence is permitted but it must be tagged with an [M] and be in accordance with Harry Potter canon. Sexual material can not be descriptive and should fade to black. However, you're more than welcome to roleplay material of that nature through different hosts and imply it might have happened in threads here.
- Powerplaying and godmoding are not permitted. Please be polite and courteous to your partner when roleplaying in avoiding these things.
Characters and Accounts
- Before creating another character, you must have five in-character roleplaying posts with your previous character around the board. (Example: Before making a second, your first must have 5 posts. Before making a third, your second must have 5 posts, etc.)
- There is no character limit. However, do not leave fellow members or partners hanging with plots or threads to go with another character. Loss of muse is understandable - serial character-making, however, is not tolerated.
- Please try to keep ratios. While there is no specific ratio rule for your characters, bans will be placed on females or males respectively if we see too much of one kind of character.
- Every character must have their own individual account. Register each character under the same e-mail account. Proboards now has an interesting feature that allows you to easily switch between accounts registered under the same e-mail.
Current Bans
- Currently, we have a ban on original characters under the age of 15, simply because of the plot and there isn't much room for younger characters.
- Additionally, we are currently accepting no characters from nations other than those in Europe.
Other Rules
C-Box Rules
- Do not spam the c-box, please. Excitement is understandable (and welcomed!), but excessive amounts of it have to be monitored for the comfort level of other players.
- No advertising in the c-box.
- Keep texting language to a minimum, but certain abbreviations are acceptable in certain contexts.
- Keep private messages private. If a staff member or another member has messaged you, please don't reveal the contents of said message in the c-box out of respect for yourself and the other persons speaking.
- Absolutely no bullying. It won't be tolerated. Period. Also, please respect staff by not sassing them in the c-box when they're laying something out.
Graphics
- Avatars have the capacity to be 200x300. Please keep them at this size, please, otherwise Proboards will resize them and then it won't look pretty.
- We have a new hover feature for mini-profiles! The hover image is 200x400, and can be put in place by editing your profile under the "Personal" section.
[li]For the sake of preventing overbearing signatures, please keep sig images within 500x250 size limits.
